winter hot drinks

homemade chai concentrate | dairy-free hot cocoa
Although it is true that I have been living in Berlin for over five years now, it has never stopped me from complaining about the lack of sun (both hidden behind the clouds during most days and disappearing promptly around 4 pm in the winter months), I have been surprisingly optimistic this fall. Perhaps it’s because I keep getting pangs of nostalgia for the autumn I studied abroad in England, or the Octobers and Novembers I spent as a child in the States collecting pumpkins, drinking hot apple cider, damn-near inhaling apple cider donuts, and surrounding myself with family for thanksgivings.

But a lot of it has to do with the fact that I guess after 5 years the cold and the gloom finally starts being such a big deal. Besides, I have always counted Fall among my favorite of seasons. Probably because it isn’t as bitingly cold as winter, but cold enough to turn on the radiators inside, snuggle under the covers, and feel that cozy feeling that summer just doesn’t provide. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer and it makes me want to spend every waking second outside, but there is something I tend to relish about cozying up on the sofa with a hot drink in the fall and winter (- this undoubtedly has something to do with the fact that my zodiac sign happens to be Cancer.)

My drink of choice tends to be just an ole’ fashioned cup of tea, but I plan on getting all freakin fancy this fall. Here are two amazing recipes I have found that I will definitely be making in the weekends to come.

  • I love when the weather starts to cool down and there’s an excuse to get all cosy inside! I generally just drink tea too but I’ll be checking out that dairy-free hot cocoa.

snuggling is def. the best in winter.

  • Chai is a personal favorite of mine, so the chai concentrate is perfect. I love plain tea as well, but it’s fun to spice it up. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

      Glad you enjoyed them, Carmen!

  • The lack of sun in Berlin is a national tragedy if you ask me. I don’t find a lot to complain about the city but the sunless months drive me insane. But in a way it gives you an extra excuse to enjoy autumnal teas and hot chocolate on a regular basis!

I think as long as you indulge in the cozy feeling of being at home during these long winter months, it makes the process a lot more bearable!
