Today is International Women’s Day. As a woman of color this day resonates with me deeply. However, this day should resonate with us all, regardless of our heritage, background, economic status, gender, or any other defining characteristic. Here is what you need to know:

  • “International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”
  • The first International Women’s Day
  • International Women’s Day 2017 is calling for #BeBoldForChange: “Call on the masses or call on yourself to help forge a better working world- a more inclusive, gender equal world.” (Read more about how you can do your part.)

  • The National Women’s Liberation in conjunction with the organizers of the Women’s March on Washington (including it’s satellite protests around the world) are the goddamned incredible minds behind “Day Without a Woman” this International Women’s Day. 30 countries all over the globe will be showing solidarity with the American women that have been directly impacted by Trump and his administration’s misogynistic policies. We must bare in mind that the ability to strike is a privilege that not all can take part in and that there are other ways to show support if this option is not one available to us based on financial and/or social repercussions. (Read more about it here.)

Happy international woman’s day to all my sisters out there (as well as the men who stand in solidarity with us). United we can continue to fight the good fight for women of all cultures, shapes, sizes, colors, economic backgrounds, and sexual orientations. Whether able bodied or not, biologically born that way, transitioned or in transition. You are all women worthy of respect for the simple fact that you are a living, breathing human being and I, and the rest of the LFB team solute you all. #pussypower
