In the Kitchen is where you will find all my recipes and adapted recipes, tried, tested, and eaten.

A few weeks ago, I shared my love for fresh mint tea, but I also have two other winter favorites – fresh ginger and hot lemon. All of these drinks are extremely easy to prepare, and can even be combined together to create a fresh mint, ginger, and lemon drink. The best part is that not only do these drinks taste amazing on their own or combined, but that they are super healthy for you to be drinking during these long winter months and will boost your immune system or help you to get over a cold, if you are unlucky enough to catch one. In fact, since I have moved to Germany, I have found myself telling everyone and their mom when they are sick to drink all three with honey when sick. Just one of the many ways I have become “eingedeutscht” over the years…

Hot lemon: Place a few slices of lemon into hot water and add honey or sugar. Just be careful that you do not overpower your drink with too much lemon or that it turns bitter (this can happen if the water is too hot!).

Fresh mint: Add a few sprigs of mint to a glass of hot water and add honey or sugar.

Hot Ginger: Peel fresh ginger, slice, and place into a cup of hot watter. Add honey or sugar.

Hybrid tip: You can also combine all three ingredients with hot water and honey/sugar for a tasty combination.

I’m not a fan of ginger but I do like me some lemony drinks ! And as you said with honey it’s delicious and helps your throat a lot ! I usually let thyme infuse along with it when I’m sick. Gets rid of any cold in no time and gives a lovely smell to your kitchen !

  • These types of drinks are the ones that I need to make! It has been so cold in Minnesota and I work at a school where all of the sick kids come to me, so anything to keep me warm and boost my immune system is needed! I like the idea of combining all three into one.

Anything with ginger in it is welcome. And healthy! And then there is the hot toddy, the winner of all hot winter drinks :D
