The beaches of Puerto RIco

I do not know what it is about islands, but there is just something so calming about a piece of land completely surrounded by the ocean. I love the coastline and its salty air – the warm wind and lapping waves crashing against the shore, pulling sand back into it’s depths, and doing it all over again.

Although I do feel like a big city girl at heart, part of me feel so at peace when in tropical places like Puerto Rico. I love carrying sand with me everywhere, getting around in just a pair of flip-flops, and letting the sun dry my hair.

Part of me feels that my life is tied to Berlin – not in some negative against-my-will sort of way, but in a way that just tells me my time in Berlin is not going to be finished for a while. Still I really hope that I get the opportunity to spend some of my life in a place where the distant sound of the ocean replaces the distant sound cars driving by at all hours of the night.

Couldn’t agree more with you. Idk what it is but I always feel so calm and happy when I’m on an island surrounded by nothing but the ocean! The pictures turned out gorgeous – wish I could be there too now!

Beautiful photos, Rae! I have a strange affinity with any stretch of water, back home in England I make a point of visiting the lake once a week and here in Hong Kong I just adore a pier-side amble when the weather isn’t quite there for a beachy afternoon. I think, even though I certainly thrive at times in the city, it leaves me a little jaded and rolling waves and that point where water meets the sky brings me back to ‘me’. (:

  Thanks so much, Michelle! I think that everyone is drawn to bodies of water for some reason. It must be something very primal for us humans. I totally get what you are saying as well – cities are amazing and I think over time I would get restless if I lived someplace quieter, but it is easy to get jaded when we are just going through the motions of everyday life.

  So glad you enjoyed this post, and yes it’s too bad, but Europe has so many other amazing things to offer too that I do not think you can compare! Berlin honestly has basically the same weather as London, but for some reason, I feel like in London the overcast skies sort of fit and never get me too down. In Berlin though, a gloomy day can often put a slight damper in my mood.

  Agreed! Sounds amazing too – if you do decide to go to Puerto Rico you should def. stay at the Dreamcatcher! I think beaches have a wonderful soothing and calming effect, tropical or not. I can understand feeling at peace in Puerto Rico. When you’re immersed in natural beauty and water (I LOVE bodies of water), it’s easy to shut out everything else that’s going on and really feel the moment. As always, gorgeous shots here.

  I love the water to just look at as well, although I do love going in too, but I think the experience of the ocean and what you get out of it is different, depending on if you are in it or just watching it ;) I totally understand what you mean too about the water over in the UK, as I have been to the Baltic Sea a few times but have never gone in as the water is just too cold there!
