So I have kind of already written about food ad nauseam, but just humor me because Starbucks in America is kind of an amazing thing. Setting aside the whole discussion on corporate America and it’s ever growing expansion across the globe, I have got to say that Starbucks is a godsend for those us of who choose not to eat meat or dairy products, or choose to do so the majority of the time. The Hearty Veggie & Brown Rice Salad Bowl was probably one of my favorite discoveries while in the US – enough so that I ate it twice.

I tend to always stock up on food when I am in transit and know that I will not have easy access to food – i.e. travelling on the train for 5+ or sitting on a plane for 5+ hours – which is where Starbucks makes it’s grand entrance and why I even bought this overpriced but entirely worth it salad in the first place. I had every intention of chowing down on this amazing dish while returning on the train from New Jersey, but ended up passing out spread across two seats, so instead had it for breakfast at my parent’s home the next day. And boy was my belly happy.

Not only is this salad delicious, but it plates so nicely. Which as got me thinking – when you might be in a pinch and need to prepare a healthy beautiful lunch for guests, why not just pick up some of these and arrange them nicely? No one will be the wiser…

*Salad dressing does contain honey, so if you are a vegan who does not consume honey, do not use the dressing.

  • I was so surprised when you shared about salad from Starbucks of all places! I’ve always regarded it as a super unhealthy coffee shop version of a fast-food chain, because whenever I’m there, my eyes go directly to the the deliciously sugary, creamy, chocolatey, milky coffees and all the scrumptious baked goods :P Next time I’m at Starbucks I’ll look out for the salad :) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

  • Is there Bridgehead in the US? In Canada, or at least Ontario, I would say that the two big gourmet coffee companies are Starbucks and Bridgehead, and I prefer BH over SB by far. Maybe I’ve never looked hard enough but I haven’t had a lot of luck with finding vegan stuff at Starbucks – seems like a lot of the things they have contain dairy?

This salad really looks good though! Maybe I’ll pop into Starbucks this week and ask if they have it.

I would check to see if they carry salads where you live, because the food products do vary from country to country!

Salad?! Starbucks?! What what?! I absolutely love Starbucks because their soy options in drinks, it’s not so common in the Korean cafe’s — oh well!
I finally got your package! My dear semi-blind Father was like, “You got some package from Brunei or Borneo.” But, it was from Berlin! x

It’s really interesting, because Starbucks is actually different in every country – which I would not have known had I not had the opportunity to travel so much. For example, they have really lovely healthy options in the US like this salad as well as oatmeal and small lunch containers, but in Germany it’s more cakes and less selection of meals. In Korea (was there though 8 years ago) I remember a green tea frap. I think they had them in the US too for a while, but they were way too sweet.

i had no idea that Korean cafes are kind of lacking in the soy milk department – I would have thought in Korea there would be more soy options than milk options!

And yes!!! I am so happy you got my package!! I hope you are enjoying the contents!!!

  • Haha! I love it. As much as I try to give up Starbucks, in any iteration, I find it impossible because they do so much right. Haven’t tried any of their salads but their coffee hardly goes wrong for me. Hmm now I’m craving some!

I really have to say that while travelling on the road, when faced with crappy food like McDonalds and Arby’s or Starbucks, I am going to choose Starbucks every time :)
