Things have been both a bit sporadic and quiet on LFB as of late. And while I do admit that this is partially due to the fact that I am just enjoying my summer and throwing myself into new hobbies (see number 6 below), I am also doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work, going to events, and working on my photography business. Still, I thought a bit of an update was in order (as told by my iphone camera…):

1: Building up my studio

I am really trying to grow my photography business – which, after all, is one of the reasons I moved flats. I have finally started to get the studio space into some kind of working order, which was definitely needed so that I can finally move forward with current client work and start focusing on getting more people in the studio and behind my lens. I also re-vamped my photography site (for the millionth time I know…) so definitely have a look!

2: Shooting weddings

Last week, I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding for two lovely clients. Weddings are hard work – you are there shooting non-stop for at least 12 hours, which although extremely rewarding, is very physically and mentally draining. Not to mention that it’s really after the wedding that you then need to sit down for the next month+ and work on editing those circa 2,000 photos you shot…

3: Getting the office together & growing LFB

I have also been working on cleaning the office up and creating a real co-working space. I am very passionate about really getting LFB to the place I want it to be and that means bringing more people on board and really getting down to business.

4: Turning a house into a home

I’ve also been working on turning my flat into the kind of liveable oasis I can be proud of. I am not entirely there yet, but things are slowly coming together and I can’t wait to share the end result with you guys (but don’t worry, I will definitely be updating with you guys on the progress being made in the meantime as well).

5: Getting older & hanging out

Celebrated my 29th last week. To be honest, although I keep on getting older (funny how that works, huh?) I’m the happiest I have ever been with both myself and my life at this very moment. Loved spending the evening with some of the best people on this planet and have loved spending time with all of these amazing individuals all summer really.

6: Picking up new hobbies

Funny story. I’ve picked up skateboarding. Now, don’t expect me to do anything amazing yet. I’ve basically managed to push around without falling and have gone down a few ramps, but gravity is really to thank for that. Still, it’s extremely exhilarating to finally live out a dream 13 year old me would be proud of. Not looking to become the best, but the thing about skateboarding that is so amazing is that it is a constant test of fear and a constant feeling of growth.

So that’s about it from my end. I’m hoping that things will go back to normal around here, as it really is a huge dream of mine to keep LFB a daily blog, but at the moment with so many things going on at the moment, I cannot make any promises. Hope you guys will bare with me until then.

Thanks so much, Tannya! And yes, everything with the studio is so exciting! As far as skateboarding goes, I am a total beginner, but having lots of fun with it already!

  • Oh, Happy Birthday Rae! The big 2 9! Though, for me, every birthday is a pretty big year! Hehe! Admittedly, I’ve been busy with University things, going to study abroad with all these checks while trying to run a blog is exhausting. Thankfully, my cousins are letting me use their studio for editing, writing and filming, so it’s helpful <3

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, Bash! And yes, those who are not in the blog world have no idea just how much work it is to run a blog. I still love having LFB, but I think I need to be a bit more realistic in my daily blogging expectations for the time being! And that is so cool that your cousins are letting you use their studio space! Are they professional photographers and videographers?

      • They are professional videographers! I’m so lucky they’ve been teaching me how to be a better videographer and photographer.

  • Happy belated birthday! Glad you had a really good one. Exciting that the new apartment is coming together, looking forward to seeing how it ends up looking + what you do with the studio!

I would love to learn how to skateboard. It seems like such a good mode of transport, haha. But my balance sucks and I’d probably break a bone…

  • Awee, happy belated birthday!! I’m really looking forward to seeing more of your interior design and how LFB develops – I bet it’s so hard for you, because you’re handling so many different projects, but I think the key is to have a good workspace :)

  • Yay, super psyched for all your updates… also happy belated birthday <3 how cool are you for skateboarding, I tried doing roller skating when I was younger and had these cool ass pink roller skates (ikr) but then realised I have like zero balance and was scared being on them hahaha! Same goes for ice skating, I scream and wail whenever I go ice skating (every year)!

  • Looks like you’ve been up to a lot! I love check-ins like these :) Your new website looks great; so clean! // I wanted to learn how to penny board so my friend taught me for about 15 minutes on her board. It was so much harder than I expected! She studied abroad last semester so I haven’t had the chance to swipe a ride on her board, but seeing that you’re learning how to skateboard has reminded me that I want to learn how to penny board :P // & happy belated birthday! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

  • Looks like you’ve been busy! Your studio and flat are coming along nicely :) Well done for shooting a wedding, I’ve done one in the past and it was exhausting.

  • Happy Belated Birthday! And don’t worry, take the time to just enjoy summer and life right now :) you can always update us later, we’ll still be here, haha. I’ve been wanting to pick up some hobbies since I just quit my job and not doing anything too extreme at the moment. I don’t think skateboarding will work for me though, I’m just way too clumsy and not coordinated. I hope to start learning a new instrument. Can wait to read your updates later on!

  • you’re so busy Rae! the new flat looks lovely– and have fun skateboarding!

  • Can’t get rid of me ;)
Only last night at work I was thinking of trying skateboarding, but my balance is awful and it could end badly. Happy Birthday too, getting older is actually awesome, I love feeling more confident and better in my skin.

  • Your new photography space is looking amazing!! It sounds like you’ve got a lot going on with behind-the-scenes stuff so it’s totally understandable that you’ve not been daily blogging. I’m always in awe of people who daily blog anyway! It’s so awesome that you’ve picked up skateboarding, I always feel like I’m too old to start new hobbies like that but I really need to take you as inspiration and just give things a try xx

  • Glad to hear you had such a great birthday! :) I’m definitely working on turning my apartment into a home as well, so I’m with you on that. It’s getting there slowly though, there have been quite a few things I’d needed to do and fix up and most of them are crossed off the list now and it’s such a nice feeling!
