I came across Artist T.C. Hutchinson’s project, “tinycup needleworks” in an interview she gave for Culture Kids and instantly fell in love. These handmade jewels remind me of a darker version of what a grandmother would stich, but every bit as sentimental and endearing.
T.C. Hutchinson has this to say about her work:
I have been lucky enough to be able to adhere to a sort of ethos which has become the very backbone of my work. Every piece is made expressly for one audience… be it a family, a shop, or single person. I may revisit the same concepts or symbols, but each piece is and will always be completely unique. I do not reproduce anything. I also will not compromise my aesthetic for profit. When inquiries are submitted for commissions, I often ask many personal questions about the recipient so as to tailor the piece specifically to them. I will take general direction, but if someone wants something verbatim, I will more than likely turn them down. If I am not connected to it, I do not love it… and why force yourself through something that brings you no joy if you don’t have to? Too much of our everyday lives are like that. I won’t waste what little free time I have. The way I see it, you’re paying for my specific eye.
