Recently, I have been on quite the drugstore makeup kick, as it allows me to “splurge” a little without even paying more than 20 euros. I admit to developing a bit of a drugstore eyeshadow dependency as of late, which I am currently working on curbing, as I definitely have just about all the eyeshadow quads in all the colors I could ever want.

My new-found love for cheaper makeup alternatives, however is definitely here to stay – especially when you find brands that do not break the bank, only use natural ingredients, carry a large assortment of vegan products, and take the environment into consideration.

dm, one of Germany’s drugstore chains, carries an in-house brand of beauty products called Alverde. Founded in 1989, Alverde carries both makeup, bath and body products, toothpaste, and baby products. Made up of plant-based ingredients, Alverde’s products are free from synthetic material or preservatives. And the best part? The majority of them are cruelty free. Alverde is also a member of the True Friends of Natural and Organic Cosmetics. (read more here). Hats off to dm for creating a makeup line that is both cheap and adheres to a conscious lifestyle. Just goes to show that if a multi-million dollar corporation like dm can do it, there really ain’t any excuse for bad practices from other companies!

I haven’t tested out their whole range, but I am in love with their lipsticks, eyeshadows and powder. If you are living in Germany, Austria, or or any of the neighboring eastern European countries, definitely take a look at Alverde if you haven’t done so already.

  • I love the sound of this brand. I had seen their body washes and haircare in my friend’s bathroom in Vienna. I’m so glad that more affordable beauty brands are really raising their game when it comes to quality and presentation! Natural make up is still something I haven’t embraced quite yet.

  • Dang I wish there were more of these here in UK! Germany always had a bit of the upper hand when it came to less costly/alternatives to natural makeup and skincare! Well I mean I’ve never to Berlin yet so… when the time comes… haha!

This is my motto in life! I love makeup, but I also love animals and am a firm believer that animal testing is not necessary for makeup in this day and age. There are so many cruelty free brands out there and no one has died yet! If I’m ever in Germany, I’ll be sure to grab some of this – for now I can stick with Elf, Milani, and Wet n Wild. And I’ll keep lamenting that MAC ever decided to start selling in China. ><

Never heard of this, but I’m in the states so it makes sense! I love the fact that more drugstores are incorporating aisles of cruelty-free eco-friendly and socially conscious products! It makes these brands so much more accessible to people who normally don’t think about the impact the products have on the world.

  • I am not the biggest fan of the Alverde make up products. I love the
philosophy behind it but do not super often find the right products for
me. However, when it comes to care products I love there shower gels,
and bodylotions. They always smell soo good. You should also take a look
at the dm brand “balea” it is not all vegan but many of their products,
and they do not test on animals too :)

  • These sounds amazing – I do have really sensitive skin so I know I should buy all my makeup and so in a drugstore – however, I of course always end up searching through the bigger ranges they have in beauty departments. But as my skin have gotten a lot worse I have decided to really try and buy some more “clean” products so I really appreciate this and I’ll be sure to check out if I can find it available somewhere nearby!
