One of the things about Berlin that never ceases to amaze me is how consistently creative this city is. Sure, there are your fair share of individuals who claim to be models, djs, photographers, artists, or all of the above who constantly talk about their ongoing “projects” but really only seem to be able to manage to drag themselves from club to club, and – eventually – into the nearest cafe with their macbook, flat white, and a hand-rolled cigarette nursing a hangover week after week where, but to be fair, Berlin wouldn’t really be the same without these people either.
But for every handful of individuals claiming to be doing things that never seem to actually get done, there are a dozen other really trying to make it with with passion – whether it’s fashion, music, photography, art, a start-up, or anything else really. Sure, Berlin is full of 72-hour-party people, but it’s also full of a lot of dedicated and driven individuals tying to make things happen. And hell, some of these people seem to balance party AND work – to which I have to say, hats off to you my good sir. You are definitely doing it right.
I had the chance to be on the other side of the lens this past weekend in order to be part of the collaborative efforts of Melli, a friend of mine who is directing two music videos for the artist Alle Farben for the upcoming film Fucking Berlin. Filming got off to a pretty shaky start, as the original camera man had issues with his camera on filming day, but we banged it out last weekend, and got what we needed done. I’m really honored to be able to be part of someone else’s creative efforts, and am always extremely open to helping people with their projects, as art does not just have to be for the artist or the viewer after the fact. It can also be a collaborative effort that we all participate in so that we can create something meaningful and exciting.
