In the Home is all about interior design and making your cozy space your own with a strong emphasis on conscious living.
As much as I am all about reducing, re-using, and recycling, I do make allowances for certain purchases, like holiday decor and homeware while still keeping the environment in mind. After all, everything is about compromise. Below are some tips for how you can decorate this December while still practicing a conscious lifestyle:
How to decorate consciously
1-2: Sort through your old decorations from previous years – Go ahead and pull out all your decorations out of storage, (1) pick out the decorations you can re-use, and (2) donate the ones you no longer like. – It’s a win-win situation. You may find that you already have about 50% of the decorations for this year already. And by giving away old decorations you no longer like, you are clearing out space and making another family’s holiday season that much brighter during this time of year.
3: Invest in decor that will last you a while – Pieces that withstand the test of time are those that are not only built to last, but stored away properly after the season’s end, and ones we will not grow tired of over time. Although our tastes change, I would suggest that any new decorations you purchase this season be ones you feel that you will be liking seasons to come and ones which will be able to be re-used year after year provided you wrap them up carefully and store them away safely.
4: Create your own from nature: There are tons of amazing bits to source from nature. Go out on a walk and collect pinecones. Buy oranges and create your own dried orange slices. Get creative, and you may find that you don’t really need to purchase much this season.
I hope this list gave you some ideas for seasonal decorating and please leave your own tips below in the comments!
