One of the best parts about Berlin is that something somewhere is inevitably always happening. Which, is kind of a blessing and a curse. Because at least for me, I sort of get complacent and do the same old things, which are great(!), but find that this results in not really taking advantage of all that Berlin has to offer. I guess I always figure I can always x, y, or z the following weekend. Well no more my friends! I am making it a point this summer to check out every goddamned possible thing that strikes my fancy and letting you all know about it. Exhibit A: Neue Heimat.
Neue Heimat is a venue located in Friedrichshain that features food art and music Thursday to Sunday. Bar & Food Night takes place every Thursday-Saturday from 6pm-4am. The Village Market takes place every Sunday from 12pm-2pm. My buddy Joel and I popped over around 6 and we strolled through the venue looking at a lot of work from independent artists. The venue consists of a few good halls with outdoor seating all around. We came rather early, and then opted for some burritos around the corner before meeting up with two of my friends, so my assumption is that during the earlier part of the evening, vendors are selling their crafts and towards the later part of the evening the place gets more packed with food and beer. It kind of reminded me of the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn that I loved so much back in college except with more craft beer. (Then again, I’m sure Brookyln is full of that shit now.)
Neue Heimat is definitely worth checking out if you are into DIY, food and music. And judging by the fact that you are reading LFB I’m just going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are. So, if you are based in Berlin and haven’t checked Neue Heimat out yet, what the hell are you waiting for? It’s the weekend, you have no excuses. And if you aren’t located in Berlin, definitely bookmark this post and keep it in mind for when you finally make it over to this fantastic city.
