As someone who is branching into wedding photography herself, I love finding new wedding photographers who inspire me. A few months ago, I shared TY French’s incredible coverage of a beautiful rustic wedding. Today, I am here to share with you another incredible wedding photographer, named Phil Chester.

Chester, who actually found his love for photography while in Afghanistan on his first tour, has been obsessed with telling stories ever since National Geographic used some of his photos to promote their documentary, “Inside the Green Berets.” After exploring different photography genres, he finally settled on wedding photography. Says Chester, “I quickly realized that there is nothing more rewarding than having the responsibility of documenting that incredible day in a couples life. Documenting that connection between two humans. It’s something I take very seriously.” Chester’s passion for wedding photography is clearly palpable when viewing his incredible imagery, like these photographs from a wedding in Washington State.

  • I’ll be honest and say that there’s something negative, though I can’t quite pinpoint what, with wedding photography. Maybe it’s because, as a performing musician, I’ve been asked to perform at weddings countless of times but I’ve gotten quite — for the lack of a better term — bored of them? The same goes for wedding photography; the photos look linear, almost monotonous but with Phil Chester on the other hand — Gosh, with Phil Chester on the other hand, I’m willing to give wedding photography a second chance! His ones are gorgeous and I’m in love with the post-editing work!

Thank you so much for sharing, Rae!

Not all photography genres are for everyones o I completely understand if wedding photos tend to not be your thing! Glad that you were able to connect with Chester’s photos though!

Capturing the REALness of people is a true gift. Not every camera-owning person can manage that. These photos are gorgeous! As for wedding photography, I think the key in producing such beautiful and authentic work is your passion for it, your connection with the couple (I believe it has to be built and it’s nice to catch up with the two good few times before the big day) and the ability to help them be themselves. Pictures turn into a masterpiece when all those three components (+ being a wizard of the lighting & your camera) line up naturally. Great visual stimulation, hon! Really enjoyed it.

I agree entirely. It does take a special eye to be able to capture photos that appear dreamy but still real. And I agree passion is key as is the connection with the bride and groom to be. Thanks, Nadia for your comment and so glad you enjoyed this post!

      Isn’t it though?!

  • I love this kind of “alternative”, non-traditional vibe! Especially the flower crown the bride is wearing, I’m a huge fan!
