Part of taking care of yourself and your health involves taking care of the outside. This means protecting your skin and caring for it on a daily basis as we are only given one body and need to to our best to take care of the one we’ve got. After all, your skin is your body’s first line of defence against pathogens.
During the winter, it’s all the more crucial that you make sure to look after your skin, as it is more susceptible to becoming de-hydrated and cracking. Moisturising also helps to avoid premature ageing, which, for a 28 year old like me, is kinda a relevant topic. (Vain, I know.) In any case, here are four products that I have been loving all winter that I think you should be loving too. Oh and the best part? Not only will these products leave your skin looking and feeling great, you can also rest assured that no animals have been harmed in order to make any of these products.
Aesop’s Fabulous Face Oil
I discovered Aesop for the first time a few years ago while I was wandering around Mitte and have been in love with their products ever since. Aesop, established in Melbourne in 1987, produces 100% vegan skincare products*. And while their products are not exclusively organic or natural, they do avoid using colorants, mineral oils, silicones, parabens or pearlising agents.
One of my favorite products from Aesop, especially during the winter, is their Fabulous Face Oil. After washing my face and applying toner, I rub this baby all over my face so that I can be sure my skin is soaking up all of this liquid-y goodness and that I am stimulating collagen production in my skin as well. (In fact, I have kind of gone a little crazy with the face massaging, especially after watchign this Korean how-to video on youtube. But hey, my people are basically known for having the best mother-fucking skin on earth, so I’m gonna take their tips!)
*Aesop does not use any animal-derived ingredients or animal-produced ingredients (i.e. honey or beeswax) nor are any of their products tested on animals. Their shaving brushes, however, do contain animal hair.
Lush’s King of Skin (Bodybutter)
I don’t know about you, but my body skin tends to just dry out very quickly. Therefore, I have been committed to incorporating hydration into my daily skincare routine. Keeping my arms and legs buttery smooth has been a breeze with Lush’s King of Skin. Not only does this product smell amazing, but the fact that this body butter comes in the shape of a bar means that you are hydrating your skin and massaging your muscles at the same time. It’s like a mini massage for your arms and legs every morning and the best part is it’s free (minus the cost of this product, that is, of course!)
Lush’s Ultrabalm All-purpose Balm
I have actually blogged about Lush’s Ultrabalm before, but I am mentioning it again, because it is just that damned good. Great for healing tattoos and keeping cuticles and elbows moisturized, this all-purpose balm is one of the best multi-purpose products out there and it’s tiny size and convenient tin makes it super portable for on-the-go use.
Rosebud Salve
I have actually never been a huge fan of lip balms, mainly because of old wives’ tale about lip balms being addicting. I always felt like they moisturized the outer layer skin of my lip, but left the layers underneath feeling weird. (I can’t explain it, so I’m not gonna try, but just work with me here.) I finally decided to give the Rosebud Salve from Rosebud Perfume a shot, mainly because I found the tin ridiculously adorable (great reason, I know), but I have to say that this has become a staple in my makeup bag. It’s incredibly moisturizing and doesn’t leave my lips feelng weird like most balms do.
