I always find that when I return from a trip that I have taken with family or friends, I always have a lot less photos to show for it. Although I tend to have my camera strapped to me at all times when traveling, I hate to slow anyone else down, so I end up taking hastily shot photos or none at all when I’m not alone. I definitely took a lot more photos during my solo day trip to the Château de Chantilly than I did the 3 days we were in Paris, but I did manage to capture a few street scenes and the view from our hotel bedroom. (Sidenote: I’ve also approached my post-processing with a bit more of an analog feel to it and am pretty happy with the results.)

Paris is one of the rare cities where I feel as if the outdoor seating at cafes oftentimes set up in such a way as to optimize for people watching rather than conversation. It’s something special to Paris that I noticed during my first trip to Paris a few years ago.

thanks Tannya, glad you got those vibes from these shots as well and yes, it really is such an inspiring city!

  • These are such beautiful photos, and I love the filter you used for them! It really softens everything… Boy I need to get better at taking holiday photos haha!

I haven’t been to Paris for so long, but I loved it. I want to go there again!

    • rae

Thanks so much Lizzie! Quite chuffed with the way I post-processed these shots this time around :) Hope you get to visit Paris again sometime soon!

  • I was just about to comment on your post-processing when I read your sidenote; I’m loving the results, too, Rae! There’s something about Paris’s poetic charms — perhaps too romanticized in my mind — and a hazy, sort of pale image that comes along with it. You’ve capture it so well.

I’m with you when you say you hate slowing anyone down, haha. This is often why I don’t get a lot of good photos when I go on trips, too.

Your observation of how the cafes are setup in Paris is extremely intriguing, largely because I often make cafe excursions where I live for the sole purpose of people watching — it’s something I enjoy immensely. I’ve always wanted to visit Paris, and your observation isn’t dampening it any time soon!

Aww thanks May, so glad you got the kind of vibes I was trying to go for from these photos without even having read about my post-processing decisions! And yes, I am starting to think that I want to take one day out of a trip when traveling with others just to roam about on my own and take photos at my own pace!

Ah and isn’t that the best part about going to cafes honestly? I think this practice tends to be rather common in Europe when compared to the US, but I have never seen it done to blatantly as it is done in Paris, where the cafes actually literally turn the chairs out to face the street!

I love your photos, so beautiful! Paris is on my bucket list :) I always take street scenes when I am travelling too. And I think of Paris, I always think of a love story, romance, date nights, love! I must visit Paris asap haha!

I also hate to slow people down on trips. I don’t want my hobby to intrude upon anyone, but we are going to Nashville this weekend and I have already informed my husband that THIS TIME there will be pictures. :)
