I have not been to many other cities in Germany, so my trip to Hamburg – although for work – was a great opportunity to explore someplace new. Now, I did make a trip to Hamburg for a photo job, but I was literally in and out in less than 24 hours and didn’t even get to explore the city by daylight. So I did what any girl who has separation anxiety with her camera would do – ran around the city and snapped photos. Here are some of my favorite street art finds from Schanzenviertel!

  • You managed to get some great shots! Sadly there’s not much street art to see in Sydney, but I always love looking out for it when I travel :)

    • rae

Thanks so much, Mani! Is there a reason why Sydney does not have much street art? I am always hearing about Art events and exhibitions in Sydney so I thought it was a very creative city!

      • I actually have no idea! I can think of a few good places for street art, but maybe the architectures just not suited for it. Melbourne’s definitely the place to go for street art in Australia!

  • I really like street art. I find that capturing those raw bits of the city really helps reveal secrets and such. You got a bunch of awesome shots! Sometimes I imagine contributing to street art though I know it’s illegal haha

So true. It’s one of my favorite ways to explore the city and I find that the best street are is found in neighborhoods that are a lot more local than the big shiny spots in the city that tend to cater to tourists. And yes, you should totally go for it! I have a friend who is a street artist and his stuff is all over Berlin :)

  • These images are absolutely amazing! I love the street art you captured especially the bathtub with the plants in it…very cool!

  • again, you proved that you can see the beauty in things people tend to overlook. THIS IS WHY I LOVE YOU, RAE <3 i loooovvveee street art. esp the witty ones. street art is a chaos in a disorder. but we can't have one without having the other. besides, i like my road with a little graffiti!

    • rae

Oh Tannya you are seriously so sweet these words really mean a lot to me thank you so much and yes I could not agree more. My favorite are either witty, make you think, are political, or just plain cute :) And yes, I am a big fan of grassroots art.

  • Oftentimes, I prefer looking at street art than art in museums. Personally, I just thought, they’re just easier to connect with.

This is a really interesting point, Christienne! I know that some cities offer street art tours which sounds like a great alternative to a gallery visit, although to be honest, I really love those as well!

  • I love these shots Rae! Seeing the street art is one of my favourite things about exploring a new place.
