In the Home is all about interior design and making your cozy space your own.

I am currently back in Berlin and am on a mission to not only re-do my flat but make it the coziest mother fucking flat in all of Berlin. And so I brought back about 5 yankee candles (to say I am obsessed with making my house smell like pumpkin pie for the next few months is an understatement) with me in my suitcase which somehow did not throw me over the weight limit, as well as some Pumpkin Spice Brulee Oolong Tea, (Teavana, if you are listening and would ever be interested in a partnership, let me know. Just kidding, no one even reads this blog anyway) and have been chilling with the kitties on the sofa with my heated sitting cushion (I’m too damned cheap to turn the heating on just yet) going through pinterest for some inspiration to aid me in this challenge. So far, this is what I have come up with:

cozy fall photos - lovefromberlin.net

Ingredients for a cozy boho autumnal oasis

1: Candles
2: Loose teas
3: handmade mugs
4: fuzzy fake sheepskin blankets and throws – lot’s and lot’s of them.
5: crystals and geodes
6: fairylights
7: dream catchers
8: mismatched rugs (possibly overlapping)

Just a side note: In Germany, because there aren’t any buffer holidays between Christmas like halloween and thanksgiving, the stores are already filling up with Christmas decorations and food. (TOO SOON.) As much as I love Christmas (as any Jewish child who grew up in the south staring longingly at the Christmas trees in the windows of my neighbors’ homes and at the Christmas decorations on all the other houses would – true story), October and November are two of my favorite festive months in the US and I want to enjoy autumn before winter. I want to soak up all the coziness of pumpkin pies, turning leaves, brisk fall walks bundled up tight, curling up on the sofa with a tea and a good book, and rounding it all off with a friendsgiving dinner by candlelight with good company, before launching into the coziness of winter and Christmas. (If any of you are as obsessed with being cozy as I am, you definitely understand that there is a difference between fall cozies and winter cozies)

  • First of all, I had no idea you’re Jewish, for some reason I am under the impression that you’re Asian or at least part Asian. You have a very exotic look and absolutely gorgeous. And these pictures here gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, things that I adore about Autumn. And boooo about Christmas stuff being displayed already, it’s the same here and Costco have them out more than a month ago. What an overkill.

Hey Shireen! I am asian, haha :) I was born in South Korea though, and adopted. Thank you so much for the compliment though, you are so sweet! And so glad that you like these photos!

I had a friend who’s grandmother knitted her these amazing socks and I really wish I had a pair like that. LOL. I do not really have any wool socks but I do have the fluffy homeware socks and a few pairs of slippers.

  • These photos are beautiful inspiration! I love the mismatched rugs and homemade mugs. It’s funny because even though we have Thanksgiving here in the US and Canada — the Christmas decorations go up at the same time as the Halloween ones. It’s a little insane actually haha!

    • rae

So glad that they inspired you, Eden! And I could not agree more. Mismatched rugs really create such a bohemian homey feel. And yes, it is pretty insane isn’t it, I feel like they keep putting out Christmas decorations earlier and earlier each year.

  • Ahh that tea sounds amazing! And even though it’s Spring here ever since I was in the US for fall last year I’ve been OBSESSED with everything cinnamon and pumpkin because that’s just not a thing in Australia. I’m actually going to Hawaii in about a week and I’m going to buy ALL the pumpkin scented candles!!

    jessica – littlehenrylee.com

    • rae

I never knew the whole cinnamon and pumpkin thing was an American thing but I guess it makes sense as we are just crazy about autumn farms, hay rides, apple picking, etc. And how exciting! I have never been to Hawaii before, hope you have an incredible time, can’t wait to read about it on the blog!

  • I am SO with you on that one! I am all up for that Pumpkin Brûlée kinda candle – that sounds divine and yes, here in Austria, we can already buy Advent Calendar´s and gingerbread-everything – it´s way too soon!!

I am holding up heating the flat as well – last year I made it to Dec. 30 – but I have crazy neighbors who start to heat very early – good for me though ;)

    • rae

Yes it really is – I am all about pumpkin-y candles! It’s pretty crazy how early the advent calendars come out in Europe, the ones in Germany come out around the same time too – as do all the sweets – they are filling all the grocery stores and drug stores already.

  • “The coziest motherfucking flat in all of Berlin”…haha I love it! These pics are definitely the essence of autumn coziness. I can practically smell the pumpkin spice candles from here! Great post :)
